Automotive Testing Services

PARC’s Automotive Testing Services (ATS) is one of the state-of-the-art Independent Testing Facilities available in the United States.  Emerging from its past service to Gulf Research & Development Company, PARC’s ATS testing equipment has been used by our customers since 1986.  Our employees have the technical expertise and skills required to meet the quality testing needs of our customers.   We are ISO 17025 certified for certain Gear Oil Tests (MIL-L-2105E) and maintain the highest   standards expected by all of our customers.

PARC’s ATS facility consists of 29,000 square feet of space with 50,000 gallon fuel storage capacity.   The main test area  contains twenty individual testing cells and support facilities.  A central control corridor features individual centers consisting of data logging and computer controls for operation of each testing area.  Electrical and water brake dynamometers are available from 5 H.P. to more than 500 H.P.

A four-lane programmed road simulator is available for performance testing of passenger cars or light trucks. The chassis dynamometers are large roll-type units with a remote-controlled mechanical inertia system and an air blower to simulate road load test conditions.

The test facilities can be altered and/or special test equipment can be designed and installed to accommodate specific test conditions to satisfy customers' requirements.  Examples would include 2-cycle or 4-cycle engines; 1, 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines and unique customer test conditions.

Gear Lubricant Testing

L33—Referenced Test (ISO 17025 certified)Evaluates the rust and corrosion inhibiting properties of a gear lubricant.  The test is run using a DANA Model 30 hypoid differential housing assembly.

L-37– Referenced Test (ISO 17025 certified)Evaluates load carrying capabilities of a lubricant under conditions of low speed and high torque, using DANA Model 60 hypoid differential with lubrited or non-lubrited gears.  Categories include high temperature, low temperature, wet, and standard.

L-42 (ISO 17025 certified)—Referenced Test—Determines the antiscoring properties of gear lubricants under high speed and shock conditions using DANA model 44 hypoid rear axle.  Categories include high temperature, low temperature, wet, and standard.

ASTM D5570 (HTCT) - Referenced Test (ISO 17025 certified)—Evaluates high temperature thermal stability of fluids in a Mack manual transmission using hybrid hardware configuration.

ASTM D5182 (FZG Scuffing Test) - Evaluates mildly additized industrial gear oil resistance to scuffing on spur gears.

FZG Micro-Pitting Test—Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to micro-pitting on spur gears.

FZG Pitting Test—Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to pitting on special spur gears.

FZG (High Performance Scuffing Test) - Evaluates a lubricant’s resistance to scuffing using special A-10 spur gears.

 Gear Lubricant Screening Tests

The following lubricant quality studies simulate highway conditions for light duty through Class 8 axles.

·          L-37 Procedures—Power source 150 HP electric motor

·          Spalling Test—Power source 150 HP  or 250 HP electric motor

·          Low speed/high torque heavy duty truck axle evaluation—Power source 250 HP electric motor.  Performance testing to meet sponsor’s  requirements.

    Vehicle Fuel Evaluation

2.3L Ford Intake Valve Deposit Test—Test includes weight measurements on intake valves as well as combustion chamber  deposits, weights and thickness.

General Purpose Engine Fuel/Lubricant Tests—Product performance on a wide variety of applications can be performed through modified and/or special test equipment designed to satisfy customer’s requirements.  Data processing and computer control systems are available.

Road Simulator—Chassis Dynamometer

A four station PC programmed road simulator is available for rapid mileage accumulation with automobiles and light trucks.  The simulator provides repeatable test results for more precise evaluation of fuels, lubes and vehicle components.

Our capabilities and services include:

ü                Fuel economy and oil performance

ü                Carburetor and fuel injector deposit measurements

ü                Gear box, transmission and engine chamber oil performance

Other fuel, additive and/or oil customized performance testing with customer's vehicle choice is available.  PARC welcomes the opportunity to discuss your possible road simulator needs. testing

Refrigeration Oil Performance Tests

PARC has a refrigeration oil evaluation test area in which small and medium hermetic refrigeration compressors can be tested.  The test has computer temperature monitoring and minimal site control.  Multiple configurations of power and monitoring are available.  The primary usage of the compressor oil evaluation area is the small hermetic compressor wear and capillary tube plugging test.

Wear Test—This test involves accumulation of hours under specific suction and discharge temperatures.  Bottom shell temperature is monitored and used as a fan control for maintaining shell temperature.  At end of test, the compressor may be disassembled and measured for wrist-pin wear and/or returned to the customer for evaluation.

Capillary Tube Plugging Test—This test involves  accumulation of hours at high temperature and flow controlled conditions. The pressures are manually controlled and the bottom shell temperature is computer monitored and controlled.

Rapid Cycle Test - A version of a rapid cycle (on/off) test is available for the small   hermetic compressor.  This can be run at customer specified conditions.

Medium Hermetic Compressors—These sites are run at customer specified conditions on universal stands.  The Sites run at customer specified conditions on universal stands.  The compressors are returned to the customer for  evaluation.

Customized Test Service Capability

PARC has several inactive test cells and certain inactive test equipment including gasoline, diesel and lawn mower engines with a variety of dynamometers and an exhaust gas test stand to meet your specific needs.

Test Support Services

PARC's experienced staff and versatile equipment permit independent, confidential, timely, customized and cost-competitive testing.  PARC technicians provider certified ratings for in-house laboratory testing procedures as well as field studies.
